The problem and why it matters
As the business grew, VM-based deployment faced low resource utilization, inconsistent environments and high maintenance costs. Applications ran separately, requiring individual environment and state management.
- Resource investment
- Improve resource utilization while ensuring infrastructure can continue supporting the business.
- Deployment efficiency
- Environment differences and fragmented deployment methods slow application delivery.
- Runtime maintenance
- After migration, teams still need unified logs, monitoring and alerts for incident response.
The project therefore combines platform construction with application migration. Applications need a common environment, shared image practices and observability for the platform to serve everyday delivery.
Recorded results
| Metric | Resume record | Value addressed |
|---|---|---|
| Application migration scope | Guided the team through containerizing over 50 applications | Bring existing business applications onto the platform |
| Resource utilization | Improved by 40% | Improve infrastructure resource use |
| Deployment efficiency | Improved by 300%, reducing deployment from hours to minutes | Accelerate application deployment |
| Average incident response time | Shortened by 50% | Support incident response through shared observability |
These figures come from my resume records. Reporting periods, application scope and efficiency metric definitions still need supporting detail.
My scope of work
- Designed and deployed a production Kubernetes cluster with high availability across availability zones and a selected networking approach.
- Built image pipelines, standardizing base image creation and application containerization.
- Built log collection, monitoring and alerting using ELK and Prometheus.
- Defined migration standards and guided developers through containerizing more than 50 applications.
I handled the relevant platform architecture and implementation, while migration progressed through standards and collaboration with developers. Delivery includes both infrastructure and the team's adoption methods.
Deliverables and key decisions
A runtime platform for production applications
Build the Kubernetes cluster, address availability and networking, and provide shared infrastructure for applications. Platform architecture needs to reflect the runtime needs of existing applications.
Images, logs and monitoring as migration foundations
Image standards organize builds and containerization; ELK and Prometheus connect logs, state and alerts after migration. Once applications enter the cluster, teams can still inspect their runtime state and respond to problems.
Migration standards shared by development and operations
Define containerization standards and guide developers so migration follows a common method. Deliver infrastructure, application changes and observability together, reducing the risk of a platform that cannot support actual business work.
What this project demonstrates
The ability to build a runtime platform from infrastructure requirements and connect image practices, observability and application migration into complete engineering delivery.
This suits teams consolidating application environments and moving to containers. Solutions need to reflect application characteristics, availability needs and maintenance capacity; deployment and incident response after migration should be accepted together.
